About
IRIS BENDER
Born and raised in a hardworking Cuban family, Iris Bender learned early the values of perseverance, community, and service. As a teenager, she experienced firsthand the limits placed on personal opportunity under government restrictions, and in 1998 her family made the difficult decision to leave Cuba in search of freedom and opportunity, leaving behind nearly everything they owned.

After arriving in the United States, Iris learned English, worked to support herself, and pursued education while building a new life. She later earned a degree in Business and Marketing while working full time and raising a family, a reflection of her belief that education and hard work open doors.

Nearly two decades ago, Iris and her husband David made Caldwell County home, where they raised their two children and became deeply involved in the community. A small business owner and longtime volunteer, Iris has worked to support local schools, families with special needs, and community initiatives. These experiences shaped her belief that leadership means showing up, listening, and doing the work for the people you serve.
